What You’ll Do

As a Mail Processing Equipment Operator, you’ll operate advanced mailing and production equipment to prepare printed materials for distribution through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Your work plays a vital role in ensuring our clients’ communications reach their intended audiences accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

Essential Functions

This position exists to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Reviews incoming mail lists and mailing instructions for accuracy and completeness.
  2. Resolves issues with mail lists and discrepancies with mailing instructions, as instructed.
  3. Set up equipment for efficient operation.
  4. Ensure mailroom production is available as needed.
  5. Utilizes mailing equipment to efficiently process printed materials while meeting established production schedules, quality expectations, and productivity goals.
  6. Ensures all mail is sorted, trayed, bagged, bundled, and tagged in accordance with postal regulations and organizational quality standards.
  7. Sets up and runs ancillary mailing equipment, as needed.
  8. Keeps accurate and detailed records of quantities mailed domestically and internationally, as required for proper postal permitting.
  9. Keeps mailing equipment in good working order and performance maintenance on a regular basis.
  10. Protects the health and safety of all employees by following all required safety procedures.
  11. Assists with general housekeeping in the mailing area.
  12. Maintains a professional demeanor and an enthusiastic attitude.
  13. Monitors company email no less than once per business day to ensure awareness of all essential and time-sensitive information.
  14. Other duties, as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least one year of experience operating mail-processing equipment in a high-volume print manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience operating machinery in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of mail processing operations and methods.
  • Knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for the protection of people, data, property.
  • Excellent time management and machine operator skills required.
  • Skilled in problem resolution and decision-making.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Ability to work proactively, understanding and applying logic to decisions.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume environment and manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
  • The ability to adjust the controls of a machine quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • Must be able to communicate regularly in-person and through written means and understand and exchange accurate information.
  • Must be able to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate business needs, when required.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand and move throughout the production and mail processing areas during the workday.
  • Safely operate mail-processing, production, and related equipment.
  • Frequently use hands and fingers to handle materials, operate machine controls, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, or move materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequently move and position materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, reach, twist, kneel, and work in confined or restricted spaces as needed.
  • Ascend and descend stairs safely.
  • Visually inspect printed materials and equipment to assess quality, accuracy, and operational performance.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to exchange accurate information.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels while following all required safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform work requiring sustained attention to detail, manual dexterity, and repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Work additional hours, including overtime, when required to meet production schedules and business needs.
  • The work environment is primarily indoors and is not typically subject to extreme weather or temperature fluctuations.
